Week: Classic with a Twist


This week's featured cake is an elegant confection from Alyssa and Kevin's lakeside wedding in Bay Harbor, MI. The four-tier cake looks like it might have taken some design cues from the royal wedding cake, with its sugar flowers and delicate piped icing details. Inside, it featured alternating layers of white cake with French cream and raspberries and chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and raspberries. For the finishing touch, pastry chef Scott Hunter of the Amway Plaza Grand hotel ringed the top and bottom tiers with ultra-thin wafers dusted in edible gold—adding a fresh twist to a very classic and elegant design. —Heather Lee
