Finding the best clothes and accessories is only half the battle in getting the perfect shot—setting the mood with the right background is just as essential. So for this June-issue party story, which documents a bride's last hurrah with her best friends, we chose the recently opened Beauty & Essex Nightclub on the Lower East Side of New York City. The hotspot, inspired by a Prohibition-era speakeasy, looks like a pawn shop on the outside, but venture a little farther back and it's a chic lounge. It didn't exactly look like that when we took over for the day, however. Racks of party dresses were rolled in, tables were covered with handbags and jewelry, and shoes were strewn out on the floor (neatly, of course). To get our models camera-ready, our makeup artist and hairstylist set up shop in the huge downstairs bathroom (which, by the way, serves complimentary glasses of champagne). But we had to work quickly—when the clock struck 4 p.m., we packed up for the day so the staff could prep for the real-life revelers of their evening rush.
