I think it's safe to say that wedding cupcakes have moved from "quirky alternative" to "perennial favorite" at this point. And in New York City, the cupcake domination continues apace. In addition to three Billy's Bakery outposts, four Magnolia Bakeries, 15 Crumbs shops, and countless other cupcake boutiques, Manhattan will soon have its very own Sprinkles. The Beverly Hills-based cult favorite, which claims to be the world's first cupcake bakery, will be opening a location at 780 Lexington Avenue on May 13. They'll be offering 50 different flavors (like red velvet, banana, and chocolate marshmallow, plus gluten-free and vegan options) and the space will include a party room. For weddings, Sprinkles offers cupcake towers, favor boxes, and custom decorations.
And because everyone loves a free sugar rush, the Sprinkles truck will be visiting Times Square today to hand out free cupcakes—check out their Twitter for more details. The truck will also be handing out cupcakes this weekend at Battery Park and Lincoln Center, and on Tuesday at the High Line. —Lauren Matthews, Brides New York
