Bridal Designers Sketch Fantasy Opera Costumes

Two of our favorite bridal designers—Angel Sanchez and Carolina Herrera—pulled out their sketch books to support New York City Opera's annual costume benefit sale, designing fantasy looks for their favorite opera characters. Sanchez dreamed up a body-hugging, flamenco-esque gown for the title character in Carmen, while Herrera sketched an elaborate courtier costume for the aristocratic Marschallin from Der Rosenkavalier (The Knight of the Rose). Other, non-bridal designers participating in last night's benefit included Gilles Mendel, Nanette Lepore, Christian Siriano, Nicole Miller, Kate Spade, and Elie Tahari. See all of the opera sketches on The Cut, and for more designs from Sanchez and Herrera, visit our Wedding Dress page. —Phillip B. Crook
