While barbecue purists may debate the authenticity of Memphis style barbecue served in New York City, for Southern transplants tying the knot in Yankee territory, I love the idea of hosting the rehearsal dinner or engagement party at a BBQ joint. The city certainly has no lack of delicious barbecue restaurants, but the new Hell's Kitchen outpost of Southern Hospitality serves up some serious style along with deep fried pickle chips, dry-rubbed spareribs, sliced brisket, and other Southern-style favorites.
The floors, walls, and ceiling of the main dining room are blanketed in unfinished 300-year-old wood, while an art installation depicting lyrics from the Million Dollar Quartet spelled out in rusty iron and neon lights weaves overhead. Downstairs you'll find a cozy wine lounge and cellar bar (pictured above) perfect for intimate private parties. The "neo-rustic setting" features walls lined with wine and bourbon barrels, plus smart leather couches and plaid-upholstered armchairs scattered about the space. The staff can even create customized specialty cocktails for the bride- and groom-to-be. Southern Hospitality is located at 645 9th Avenue at 45th Street in New York.
