Featured this week are two wedding cakes by K.Rose Cakes
in Washington, DC. Both confections start with the same basic design—two square cake tiers wrapped with brown striped ribbon. But it's the addition of different décor elements that give each cake a distinct look and feel. The oversize tropical sugar flower (left)
adds a touch of boldness that's tempered by the sweet silk ribbon cascade; the design would beautifully complement a garden or island wedding. The cake (on right)
, accented with white dahlia blossoms (also fashioned from sugar) and a tiny guinea feather, has a more streamlined look that would work well in a modern loft or art gallery. —Heather Lee
