So tomorrow is the big day—the huge Running of the Brides Sale at Filene's Basement on the Upper West Side of Manhattan (80th and Broadway) starts at 8 a.m. sharp. Over 2,000 designer wedding dresses that were upwards of $10,000 will be marked down to between $249 and $699. And I'll be there, capturing every minute of the madness via Twitter—be sure to follow us at @brides.—Kim Forrest
"Running of the Brides" Tips From Filene's
Dress in a sports bra and shorts, leotard or swimsuit; while there will be fitting rooms, most brides opt to try on dresses out in the open.
Leave your handbag and any jewelry at home: it's difficult to keep track of valuables, and last year, one bride lost her engagement ring when it got caught on a dress.
Don't wear makeup, it might rub off on the dresses.
If you want to be part of the "rush to the racks," arrive at the store by 6 a.m.; if you'd a more relaxed scenario, show up in the late morning—there will still be plenty of dresses available, but fewer crowds.
At the sale, be considerate and play fair—don't horde dresses! Grab what you can and give up what you don't want so that other brides can get started. Filene's does reserve the right to limit the number of gowns you can hold at one time.
Remember that bridal gowns run small; if you find a dress that's even near your size, try it on. There will be alterations experts on hand to advise you.
This is a one day sale, so gowns are not returnable.
Drink plenty of water, take lots of breaks (and pictures!), and have fun!
