Bridal Market Dispatch: New Accessories

Wedding Dresses

The brand-new wedding dresses often steal the spotlight at bridal market, but I always look forward to checking out all of the fabulous new accessories—shoes, headpieces, bags, and the like. Here's my report of what's new in bridal accessories from the front lines:

Peacock feather hair accessories: I saw vibrant plumage everywhere—Sara Gabriel, Enchanted Atelier, Haute Bride, and Breeziway all created interpretations on the peacock feather hair comb. It's a whimsical, colorful twist on the vintage-inspired headpiece.

Roaring '20s-inspired headpieces: Speaking of the vintage look, it seems that Boardwalk Empire—set in the 1920s—might have been the inspiration for several designers. Sparkly headbands reminiscent of flapper fashion were all the rage at Polly Edwards, Halo & Co., Haute Bride, and Stephanie Browne Australia.

Comfortable bridal shoes: Foot Petals, the company that creates comfy insoles, has created a line of bridal shoes with the cushions already built in. Best of all, they're chic, too—perfect!

British Invasion, Part Two: We started to see this the last market: an
influx of designers from across the pond. Newcomers this time included
headpiece mavens Halo & Co. and Polly Edwards and shoe designers Aruna
Seth (known for her totally glam designs) and Rachel Simpson (who
creates vintage-inspired bridal shoes). Aruna Seth's Tiffany blue shoes
were a particular standout—the ultimate "something blue."

Bejeweled sashes: Adding a bit of sparkle to an otherwise simple gown with a sash is always an affordable and fashionable idea. Many accessory designers showed glittery belts and sashes—Erica Koesler, Enchanted Atelier, Ti Adoro Jewelry, Haute Bride, and Christina Garcia to name just a few.

Color!: Bridal hair accessories used to only come in variations of white, off-white, or ivory. A few seasons ago, we started to see more black hair accessories (which look particularly fabulous on blondes), and last season, blue was all the rage. At this market, I saw hair accessories in every color of the rainbow, from blush pinks to vibrant oranges, rich purples to deep, sultry reds. A colorful hair accessory can make a fashion-forward "Part Deux"—if you're wearing a traditional veil for the ceremony, switch to a bright feather or flower comb to add a pop of color for the reception.

Whimsical hats: Yes, they're a little high-fashion and over-the-top, but
what fun! From couture-inspired dainty top hats to large, flower-adorned
sun hats, these toppers totally make a unique statement. Check out
designers Guy Carsone, Elen Henderson, and Breeziway for their takes on
this unexpected wedding-day accessory.
