Every year, Filene's Basement's Running of the Brides supersale promises deep discounts on designer wedding gowns (and swarms of bargain–hunters trying to get their hands on them). Those willing to brave the crowds can score gowns for as little as $249 (prices max out at $699).
A few tips for surviving the stampede: Wear a sports bra or swimsuit (so you can try on dresses anywhere in the store) and do some gown research, which will make it easier to hone in on what you (and your helpers) are looking for. And don't worry if the dress you love is too large, since a few simple alterations will usually make it fit perfectly. (Don't buy anything too small though—making a gown larger is more difficult.)
