From the NYC's West Village to the West Coast

New York City's Magnolia is undoubtedly the bakery that started the cupcake craze and, lucky for us, a branch is located just a few blocks away from our office. It's definitely become our go–to spot for office party sweets and treats.

And now, Southern California cupcake fans can get their frosting fix at Magnolia's first West Coast location, now open at the corner of West 3rd Street and Orlando Avenue. The bakery is decorated in vintage–inspired décor, with pale mint green walls and black–and–white checkered floors, with an open work area so you can watch employees frost the famous cupcakes, which are available in more than a dozen flavors and pastel–hued frostings (my fave: the vanilla cupcake with pink frosting). Equally addictive are their icebox pies, layer cakes, puddings, and cheesecakes. Get there early and be prepared to brave a line, and let us know what you think in the comments. How do Magnolia cupcakes compare to, say, Sprinkles? What's your current favorite cupcake?
