Shakespeare under the stars in Tahoe

Heading to north Lake Tahoe this summer for your bachelorette party? If you're visiting between July 9 and August 22, add a visit to Lake Tahoe's Shakespeare Festival to the itinerary. The open-air amphitheatre (overlooking views of the lake and surrounding mountains) will be hosting performances of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), a parody that squeezes performances of all 37 of Shakespeare's plays into just two hours (and with just three actors!). The on-premise lakeside restaurant, Shakespeare's Kitchen, will be offering a full dinner menu, as well as beer and wine. You can find more information and buy tickets at

And if you're still looking for an affordable place to stay, check out the recently renovated Truckee Tahoe Lodge. It's conveniently located (just a quick drive to the lake), has a pool, and just opened a new Mountain Burrito Company restaurant. (They also offer special group rates for wedding parties.) —Lauren Matthews, editor, Brides Northern California
