Hot for Fall: Pearl Cocktail Rings

Jewelry & Accessories

Every year I attend a series of fine jewelry trade shows in Las Vegas, where I scout for trends, meet and/or reacquaint with designers, and note a number of fabulous pieces I'd like to feature here on brides.com or in the pages of Brides Local Magazines. Naturally, I'm particularly tuned in to diamond engagement rings and wedding bands, but with so many magnificent tourmalines and tanzanites literally at my fingertips, it's easy to get distracted. I start imagining how I can make, say, a pair of superlong, feather-shaped earrings set with slabs of rough-cut ruby (hi, Marco Bicego!) work for one of our fashion stories…Yeah, that's probably not going to happen, much as I would like it to. Pearls on the other hand, are much more convincing. In creamy white or silvery gray, the luminescent baubles are a symbol of purity and innocence, and rank high as a favorite wedding-gown accessory among traditional brides. You may think they're too dainty, too "debutante," but in cocktail-ring form, pearls look modern, cool, and even a little playful. If the luxe examples above are any indicator, you're going to see a lot this fall, at every price point (think: Carolee et al). Why not whip one out for the reception? —Amy Elliott, Executive Editor
