A real bride's cake tasting

With so many delicious flavor options and combinations out there, it's not easy to decide which you'll choose for your own wedding cake. I learned this at my own cake tasting a few weeks ago—it was probably the most fun Dan and I have had since starting to plan our wedding. Our wedding planner, Jill Gordon had told our cake designer, the amazing Miche Bacher of Sacred Sweets on Long Island, a little bit about our likes and dislikes. We have pretty simple tastes, and aren't huge fans of fruit fillings on cakes, so we thought our options would be fairly limited. How wrong we were! Miche brought over four mini cakes, each a different flavor. After a taste test, we mixed and matched our favorite cakes and fillings until we found the winning combination—a rich chocolate cake with white chocolate and Mexican chocolate fillings. Yum! A close runner-up, though, was a cake with an orange and ginger filling—not at all what we expected to like, but it was amazing!
