The end of the wedding whirlwind

Phew—my year of weddings is complete! The final wedding of the year was for my dear friend and former roommate, Nora and her hilarious husband, John. I was there the day they met and I don't think Nora has stopped laughing since! It was my first time as a bridesmaid and I have to admit that I didn't start the weekend off well. It's probably the first cardinal bridesmaid rule, and I broke it: I waited until the last minute to have my dress altered. I brought my dress in on Monday to have it hemmed just a few inches. They told me it was no problem to pick it up on Thursday before they closed at 6 p.m. (we were leaving Friday morning to make it to the rehearsal). I planned to stop on my way home from work but unfortunately, it's been busier than usual at the office. Before I knew it, my watch said 6:30 p.m. I moved quickly into panic mode thinking that they might be closed on Fridays. I would officially have the title of "Worst Bridesmaid Ever" and never have the honor again! Luck, however, was on my side that day (or maybe Nora's side). I picked up my dress at 9 a.m., rushed to the salon for my manicure/pedicure and had just enough time to let it dry before my ride picked me up at noon!

In the end, the wedding was flawless. Nora and John opted to rent out a restaurant rather than a typical banquet venue and it was the best wedding food I've ever had! The restaurant staff had moved the tables to the outside edge of the main room which provided the many talented guests a dancing floor. As of this week, while the newlyweds enjoy their Mexican honeymoon, I plan to rest my dancing feet until next year—first wedding of 2010 is scheduled for July in Puerto Rico! —Alycia Grace Mason, associate fashion editor, Elegant Bride
