Perfect attendance

I was happy to bump into a friend the other day because I hadn't seen her in months—she had been MIA because her entire summer was spent going to weddings, showers, bachelorette parties and other pre-wedding celebrations. She and her husband looked so happy just to be outside, in jeans, relaxing and enjoying the weather. They must be the bionic wedding guests, able to leap from ceremony to ceremony in a single bound. As friends or family of the bride and groom, our first instinct is to rearrange our schedules, travel itineraries and holiday weekends to be there for the special day of those who are important to us. But sometimes it's just impossible to "save the date" (imagine if a summer's worth of weddings all fell on the same Saturday night!). Whenever I haven't been able to attend a wedding, I feel terrible about it as I reluctantly check off the "regret" box. Have you ever suffered from guest guilt? —Brooke Showell, senior associate features editor, Elegant Bride
