Dress drama

As a bridesmaid I've worn long and short dresses; I've both matched the other 'maids from the earrings on down and also selected my own style. I can honestly say that the three dresses I've been asked to wear were all beautiful (27 Dresses is hilarious, but I'm grateful I don't have much in common with Katherine Heigl's character).

For my wedding, my mission is to find something my ladies love and avoid dress drama—that is, an exhausting needle-in-a-haystack search for one dress that will please my many 'maids. I want this to be easy for everyone. The plan: Each will wear the knee-length dress of her choice in the shade (or one of the shades) I select from a particular designer's line. I prefer that they don't match and I think they'll like having a choice, too.

What are you asking of your attendants in terms of their attire? Have you avoided dress drama? Do tell! —Michaela Garibaldi, assistant managing editor, Elegant Bride
