Every morning, I turn on the Today show as I'm getting ready for work. (Truth be told, when it's a dull segment I do switch over to Saved by the Bell on TBS.) And I always stop whatever I'm doing when I hear Willard Scott's voice and immediately park myself in front of the TV. In case you're not familiar with Willard's segment, he announces milestone birthdays and wedding anniversaries. And I mean serious milestones. You have to be at least 100 years old to get your birthday on air, and have to have been married for at least 75 years to get your wedding anniversary announced.
For the longest time, I thought chances were pretty slim for hearing Willard announce the name of someone in my family. But not anymore. My grandparents, Hazel and Eugene Henry (pictured), just celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. And following behind them, albeit a distant second, are my parents, at 47 years. Both are shining examples of the marriage—and longevity—that I hope to one day have. So watch out, Willard! The Henrys are coming. —Anita K. Henry, group managing editor, Modern Bride
