I live in a large apartment building in Manhattan. On my floor, one side of the hall is all studio apartments, and on the other side are all fairly large one-bedrooms. Maybe it's a sign of the economic times that the studio apartments each have young couples living in them, while the one-bedrooms all have single women who are a bit older and have been living in the building for quite a while.
What's funny, too, is that each of these couples (there are three of them) have gotten married this year—two within one week of each other. And on the single gal side, well, it was looking grim as far as marriage was concerned. I was starting to feel like our side of the hall had some kind of voodoo curse—until yesterday, when I met the brand new husband of my next door neighbor. (She had been away for quite awhile so I was totally unaware that she was getting married.) So there you go: My side of the hall can get married and live in a one bedroom after all. —Amy Jaffe, art director, Modern Bride
