You may have taken note when we reported on the launch of No Frizz—a silicone-free hair-styling line developed by an M.I.T. professor and a team of researchers (April/May 2009). Well, I'm here to personally testify to the absolute genius of this product. I Japanese-straighten my hair—but only once a year—and let me tell you: that last month before the appointment is hair hell. Especially this year, when we curly heads were challenged by the hideously humid month of June. No, the stuff didn't make my hair pin-straight (at least not without a little help from a flatiron), but neither was my hair a pitiful half-straight/half-curly-grow-out nightmare. Curls were calmed, and the dreaded halo of frizz was eradicated, without that icky greasy feeling that silicones can impart; thanks to the key ingredient—polyfluoroester—my hair felt pleasantly dry and slippery, just how I like it.
