If you are looking for a Caribbean Honeymoon or Destination Wedding location convenient to the East Coast, you should check out Turks and Caicos and its newest resort, the Gansevoort (on the island of Providenciales (Provo).

Turks and Caicos consists of 40 islands and cays only 8 of which are inhabited and is part of the British West Indies just south of the Bahamas. Provo is the main tourist destination and has an international airport with direct flights arriving daily from Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Miami, New York, Philadelphia and Toronto making the island easy to get to from the East Coast. The flight from New York on American Airlines is less than 3 hours in the air, just a bit closer than Hawaii...

There's more!

I recently had the pleasure of spending 5 days at the Gansevoort which is the most Western resort on the world class Grace Bay Beach, rated as one of the top beaches in the world by Conde Nast Traveler. The Ganesvoort is brand new having opened in March and brings modern luxury living to the Caribbean.

The rooms are impeccably decorated, all with ocean views and most with private terraces. The beds are extremely comfortable (great for honeymooners) and all of the bedding, towels and linens are from Frette. The bathrooms have oversized showers with Kohler rain tiles and large soaking tubs or jacuzzis (all perfect for 2 people). Some of the rooms even have full kitchens which I highly recommend (a grocery store is nearby) and full washer and dryers. Each room also includes complimentary WIFI, a Bose ipod speaker system, flat screen TVs and DVD players.

The resort has a branch of Exhale mind body spa . The spa holds their Core Fusion, Core Fusion Sport, Core Energy Flow and Yoga classes daily outdoors in a covered area. Guests can arrange for private classes in their room or on the beach. In addition to the classes, the spa offers massages, body scrubs, facials, manicures, pedicures and waxing. Each spa room has a private outdoor garden and an outdoor shower including the couples massage room, perfect for honeymooners!

Bagatelle Bistrot, from New York's meatpacking district, is the restaurant at the Gansevoort. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers 24 hour room service. In addition, Bagatelle runs the Beach Club providing food and drinks while you are lounging at the pool or on the beach. They will even provide private beachside dining for the honeymoon couple or for groups.

For a Destination Wedding, Bagatelle Bistro and The One Group will handle all of your catering needs and work with you based on your budget. They have already had one beachside wedding including a barbeque on the beach for the rehearsal dinner followed the next night by the wedding at the restaurant with the dance floor out by the pool. Another smaller wedding actually occurred on the pool! The pool has 4 "floating" islands in it and one couple chose to get married on one of the pool islands. Kanzi, the manager of the restaurant, is very nice and will work with you to customize the wedding however you want. They will be flexible to meet your needs within your budget.

Turks and Caicos is perfect for a honeymoon or for a Destination Wedding. The islands offer every imaginable water sport activity (parasailing, scuba, snuba, snorkeling, jet skis, wind surfing, etc.) and many land based activities as well (tennis, golf, horse riding, ATVs on the beach). There are several great restaurants and even two casinos as well.

I can't begin to say enough good things about the Gansevoort, Exhale spa and Bagatelle Bistrot as well. The resort is fantastic and the staff is super friendly and attentive. If you are planning your wedding or honeymoon, plan on Turks and Caicos and the Gansevoort and tell them Brides.com sent you! —John Vaccaro
