Sometimes my job here has nothing to do with helping to publish Modern Bride. Lately I've been spending a lot of time preparing for a big red-carpet event we're holding next month to honor our 25 Trendsetters of 2009. Modern Bride Trendsetters are the innovators who elevate the wedding industry (see who we selected this year on page 209 of the June/July issue), and we'll fete them on May 11 at The New York Palace Hotel. Getting ready for this event is just like planning a wedding, and virtually everyone on staff pitches in. We come up with a color palette, we choose a floral designer, we have a tasting to decide on the menu, we work with a stationer to create the most modern and emblematic invitations, and the list goes on. (Don't get me started on the seating chart. That takes days, and there are endless changes. See? Just like a wedding.)...

One of the most fun parts is securing the celebrity presenters who give the awards to the Trendsetters. In past years we've had such a cool, eclectic group, including Lance Armstrong, Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan, John Corbett, Sara Ramirez of Grey's Anatomy, Susan Lucci and lots more. This year we've got another fun cast on hand: Sex and the City's Kristin Davis, Christian Siriano of Project Runway and Rachel Hunter, to name a few. The person I'm probably most excited to meet is Bethenny Frankel from The Real Housewives of New York City (I never miss an episode—she makes me laugh so hard). We're also doing something new this year and featuring a quick set from a standup comedian—Susie Essman, who's on Curb Your Enthusiasm and got married last summer. She's another woman who makes me howl, so I can't wait to see her standup routine.

I'll check back in as the event gets closer to let you know how it's all shaping up. Next week: following up on the RSVPs! —Kara Corridan, executive editor, Modern Bride
