Obama For America/Handout/Reuters
As President and Mrs. Obama make their way into their future home, the White House, we would like to take a stroll down memory lane back to their 1992 wedding. Among many other things, Michelle Obama is known as a fashion icon and someone who will no doubt be setting many trends during her stay in Washington. So while her dress may look off the mark if it were to be worn now, her off-the-shoulder, sweetheart neckline ball gown was all the rage back in the early 90s.
But let's say the Obama's had just met, or were planning a vow renewal today in 2009. Here are our picks for an updated version of the first lady's wedding dress:
Left: One of the reasons why Michelle Obama always looks great in everything she wears is because she knows what her best features are and how to show them off. The asymmetrical neckline on this Romona Keveza dress would show off her shoulders and upper body while the long flowing skirt hides her hips and adds a classic element to this updated ball gown.
Middle: A splash of color would be a perfect way for the first lady to add a personal touch to her wedding gown. This Vera Wang number features a bustled skirt and strapless neckline finished with an rust-colored sash.
Right: Michelle Obama famously said on the Tonight Show that she shops online at J. Crew, so why not wear one of their wedding dresses! This sleek cotton dress features a bateau neckline accented with crystal and rhinestones that extends to a low scoop back. The column silhouette and chic pockets are the perfect mix of modern and class. —Cari Wolfert
