Warning! Do not take your boyfriend/fiancé/husband to see this movie! BUT, if you are looking for a fun and totally silly chick flick to see with your girlfriends, this is the movie for you. So you know the story, Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Anne Hathaway) are best friends, their weddings get double booked (same place, same time) so they end up competing with each other to see who will have the better wedding by sabotaging each other's big days.
The story is cute, the clothes are great (see our interview with the movie's costume designer Karen Patch) and the laughs are few and far between, but there are some wedding tips to take away (and leave) in the movie. So we have put together this little true and false cheat sheet for you:
You do not alter Vera, you alter yourself to fit Vera. Oh so false! And really, it makes no sense...
No matter what your size your dress almost always needs to be altered in some way and there is no shame in that. I have to assume that even Vera herself would agree.
Your wedding might be double booked. True, but it is very rare. Make sure you read over your contract and have everything in writing to avoid confusion or mistakes.
Someone can easily sabotage your hair color/spray tan pre-wedding. Ok, I guess "technically" they can but it would not be as easy as they make it look in the movie. We also suggest getting any beauty treatments (facials, hair color. etc.) a few weeks before the wedding in case you have a bad reaction to the product or it needs to be tweaked.
Planning your wedding might not always bring out the best in you. Almost every bride can admit that this can be true at one time or another, so take some advice from Kate Hudson who we caught up with at the Bride Wars premiere. When we asked her what her number one tip was for brides-to-be she said have fun and enjoy the insanity. We agree! —Cari Wolfert
