Each wedding is on the brink of disaster and David and his team come to the rescue by turning each wedding into the dream affair the bride has always envisioned. We asked David to tell us some of his wedding planning secrets to help brides everywhere avoid disastrous situations on their wedding day. Here's what he had to say: —Anne Chertoff
In your new show, My Fair Wedding, you save the bride from what could be a disaster of a wedding day. What can a bride do to keep disasters or chaos at bay on her wedding day?
This best way to keep your wedding day in order and to avoid disasters is to create your schedule for the day and have only one person appointed to keep you on track (like your maid of honor) and if possible, hire a "Lady in Waiting" to attend to your needs. This will keep you calm and collected and able to enjoy your day without any distractions.
How can today's bride create a fantasy wedding on a shoestring budget?
Every bride has a fantasy and deserves to have her most special day be just that. There are many options...
to be able to have a celebration on a lower budget. Many brides are choosing to have a ceremony and cocktail party, rather than a full reception. Another option is to have a smaller wedding and reception and then host a cocktail party celebration for all your friends and family after you return from your honeymoon. I also suggest that a bride think of her fantasy and should try to achieve a few of those fantasy elements if not them all, such as her dream dress or dream flowers.
Is there one wedding detail or tradition you suggest/recommend brides include in their wedding? Is there one they should avoid?
As with any bride, the wedding details are very personal and individual to each bride. I do suggest writing your own vows, it really makes the ceremony very personal and allows your guests to really feel connected to you. As to avoid, I always suggest organizing into the schedule a specific time for toasts and keep them limited to only the people you would like to give a toast.
Weddings usually have a theme and color palette. What advice can you give to brides regarding how to pick their theme and wedding colors?
There is always a trend or style in vogue, but every bride should pick a style or color that not only fits with the location, but also the time of year. You also want to keep the style elegant and timeless.
Do you have any wedding planning tips a bride should follow while planning her wedding?
Almost every bride will have a "bridezilla" moment - it's a big task to plan a wedding and there's a lot of emotions involved as well. The best advice I can give is to give yourself plenty of time to plan your wedding, stay organized and make sure you choose and book quality vendors that will do an amazing job and who you trust.
