Engagement photo Q&A

NY, NJ and CT

We love this beautiful engagement photo by New Jersey photographer Todd Laffler of Laffler Photography, so we went straight to the couple to find out more about their engagement photo shoot.

The Couple: Jessica Tremper and Jeffrey Jodeksnis of Rochelle Park.

The Location: Montclair State University. "The obvious choice, since Jeff and I met there as undergraduates," Jessica says.

First Impressions: "Initially, we felt a little stiff," says Jessica. "We didn't really know what to do in front of the camera. But Todd's easygoing personality really helped loosen us up."

All Smiles: To lighten the mood, Jessica told Jeffrey that she'd treat him to dinner at the restaurant of his choice if he smiled in the photos. Jeffrey gave it his best shot--and got to chow down at his favorite Mexican restaurant afterward.

Why they'd recommend getting engagement photos: "It helped us to feel comfortable in front of the camera, which I think will help our actual wedding pictures come out better," Jessica says.

Hit me with your best shots: They're planning on including their favorite photos in the guestbook for their October wedding. —Kim Forrest, Assistant Editor, Brides Local Magazines

Wedding Wisdom: Like Jessica and Jeffrey, choose a place that's meaningful to you as a location for your engagement photo shoot. Whether it's a park you like to hang out in, a part of town you stroll on the weekends, or a beach you visit in the summer, you'll be more comfortable in a familiar place, and your pictures will be the better for it.
