Last Sunday, George Takei, who is best known for his role as Mr. Sulu on the original Star Trek, wed Brad Altman, his partner of 21 years, in a Buddhist ceremony in Los Angeles. The couple, clad in matching white tuxedos, drank sake from red lacquer cups before saying their vows in a circle of yellow roses. Fellow Star Trek stars Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig served as the maid of honor and best man. Afterwards, the couple led guests to a reception at the Japanese American National Museum—a site chosen to reflect Takei's roots—showing the "live long and prosper" sign to friends and photographers as they walked. —Kathryn Papanek

Wedding Wisdom: This happy couple had two close friends standing with them at the altar—a woman and a man. If you want your brother or best male friend to stand as your man-of-honor or his sister or best gal pal to stand as his Best Woman (instead of Best Man) go ahead and ask them. While your Man-of-Honor may feel out of place at your shower or bachelorette party, it's more important for you to have those closest to you stand with you at this very special moment.
