    Wine for your wedding

I recently attended a luncheon hosted by Beaujolais at New York's Irving Mill. Beaujolais, the so-called "Tuscany of France," is well-known for its Beaujolais noveau—a fruity, red wine that is released every November. But, the nouveau only accounts for 30% of the total production of the region—there are actually 12 different appellations made from the region's Gamay grape, including the ten crus and Beaujolais-villages. And due to the area's different terroirs and winemaking techniques, the wines are very diverse: From delicate and fruity, to more robust and spicy, so they can truly go with almost any type of food. During the lunch, we sampled the various Beajoulais wines with everything from duck breast, to fish, to rabbit.

Apart from their versatility, they're also a great choice to serve at wedding receptions because of their affordability: My favorites—The Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages and the Domaine Dupeuble Pere et Fils—both cost under $12 a bottle. Find out more at beaujolais.com...

And for New York City brides looking for an intimate, rehearsal dinner venue, I definitely recommend checking out the Wine Cellar at Irving Mill. The private room seats up to 40 people and has a warm and cozy, Old World feel. Plus, the greenmarket-driven French and Italian-style cooking is to die for. —Lauren Matthews, Editor, Brides New York
