BRIDES Magazine
BRIDES editor takes her cue from our J/A 09 cover

Naomi Kaltman/BRIDES
About a month ago, I lost my job. The same day I got the bad news, I was supposed to have a conference call with the would-be caterer of my not-yet-planned wedding. When the time came, I called and told her that I had just been laid off and that all wedding plans were off. Luckily, a few weeks later, I landed here at BRIDES. But I was still feeling a little shell-shocked by the experience and making plans for the future seemed overly optimistic. When I started my new job, I was introduced as the only in-house bride-to-be (talk about pressure). I felt like a phoney because I didn't have the joy or excitement usually associated with planning a wedding. A pair of shoes changed all that. The minute I arrived in the office the July/August 2009 issue of BRIDES caught my eye. I soon realized it was the pair of shoes the bride was wearing on the cover. The cheery yellow hue of the crazy-tall Louboutin pumps made me smile every time. It finally hit me—those are the shoes that I want to wear when I walk down the aisle. Now, I'm again giddily talking with my girlfriends about all my cockamamie ideas and more importantly, I'm happy again and the future seems bright. Keep coming back to see how my wedding plans are progressing. —Joyce, BRIDES Magazine
