Real Wedding: Vintage 60s
When Brooklyn hipsters Erica and Collin married at Webb Barn in Connecticut this fall, they gave a shout out to their love of all things retro and to their familial musical talents (on both sides). The bride's dress was a 60s deadstock item complete with sleeves and lace (found online at vintagewedding.com), her veil was made from her mother's veil to which she added new tulle and lace, her bridesmaids bought vintage dresses from the 50s and 60s they found at thrift stores, and the groomsmen's shirts were bought to match the vintage feel. No strangers to the stage, the groom and his family members had performed at family weddings in the past and the new couple wanted to reprise that idea, and add to the current line-up. Naming themselves the Barnstormers, members included the bride, groom, father and brothers of the groom, and mother, father and aunt of the bride. Talk about getting your families to interact! The setlist included "In My Life" by the Beatles, "Ghost Riders in the Sky" by Johnny Cash, "Whip It" by DEVO, and "Suffragette City" by David Bowie. (Sorry, no Chicken Dance here!)
In addition to incorporating family members into the band, a giant wooden cut-out painting of Collin's father's guitar was hung on the door of the barn. The decorative guitar was originally made by Collin's uncle Larry as part of a float designed by his late wife Patty for the Barnum Parade earlier in the year. Clearly, the family that rocks together, stays together—no matter the circumstance.
