Homes for the holidays

Courtesy of Women-in-Need.org
There was a time when parents of the bride would buy the newlywed couple a house as a gift for their wedding. More modern parents might give the couple the option of throwing them the wedding or giving money toward a house. Now, anyone on your guest list can gift you with a wonderful house--one that's purchased for a great cause--and designed by designers like Vera Wang!
Women In Need, one of New York City's largest providers of shelter and services for homeless families, is auctioning off one-of-a-kind paper mache houses created by renowned designers, sports stars, Broadway performers and other VIPs to raise money for homeless families. Halle Berry, Oscar de la Renta, Jennifer Lopez and Vera Wang--who's bridal- inspired creation is pictured here and, we're told, is already a much desired item--all designed houses.
The online auction begins today on charitybuzz.com and will end on Monday, November 30th. —Elayne Fluker
