Hip new Berkeley hotel

Courtesy of Hotel Shattuck Plaza
Following a multi-million dollar renovation, the landmark Hotel Shattuck Plaza in Berkeley recently re-opened for business. Originally built in 1910, it was the city's first (and most luxurious) hotel, but now that it's been given a new life as a swanky, hip boutique property, it would make a fabulous spot for a modern wedding. The Crystal Ballroom features tastefully-carpeted floors and mirrored walls, the in-house restaurant FIVE caters contemporary American bistro fare, and it's located just one block from the Downtown Berkeley BART station.
But even if you've already booked a reception venue, you can still get in on the action. From now until December 31, the hotel is offering a Romantic Getaway Package, which includes a room of your choice, drinks and dessert at FIVE, breakfast for two, and a late 3pm check-out. Rates begin at $189/night. Visit hotelshattuckplaza.com for reservations. —Lauren Matthews, editor, Brides Northern California
