5 Questions with...
Jeff Leatham

Courtesy of TLC
Celebrity floral designer Jeff Leatham not only has created dramatic works of art for stars like Eva Longoria and Janet Jackson, he is becoming a star himself! His new show Flowers Uncut with Jeff Leatham premieres on TLC this Wednesday and documents his move to New York from Paris. Here he talks to us about working on weddings, his floral personality and reveals his celebrity dream client. —Cari Wolfert
What is the first question you ask brides and grooms when you meet with them about their wedding?
I ask them to close their eyes and envision their wedding and tell me exactly what they see. Everyone has their dream in their head. After that I ask them what colors they want to incorporate.
You created the floral arragements for Eva Longoria's wedding. How can someone incorporate her flower style into their own big day on a budget? She really wanted her Latin culture relfected in her reception so we designed a space that was sexy and passionate using shades of reds and purples. From the second the guests were dropped off everything was an expression of color so for your reception work with your florist to create depth through color. Plus, colored flowers are often less expensive than white ones.
What is your number one piece of advice that you give brides and grooms about planning their wedding day?
Just don't stress too much! Keep things simple and monochromatic. Brides can get bullied by their mothers, friends, event designers, etc. So I say stick with your vision. Let it be edited but do things your way and don't let competition get in the way. Your wedding day is very personal so you want people to say, "Wow, that is just like them" when they enter your party.
How does your personality and signature style translate into the style of your floral arrangements?
I am clean, simple and chic both in my personal style and with my flowers. The detail in my work is important. I do everything myself from designing the event to placing each flower —talk about a control freak! I love architecture and art so I am inspired by the perfection that goes into both which shows though in my personality.
Who is your celebrity dream client?
Dolly Parton. She's nice and like fun things. I've worked with everyone that I wanted to work with and she's the only one missing. I picture a lot of pink flowers for her.
