California
Creative couple

One of my closest friends, Olga, got married this past weekend in Big Sur, California. It's one of the most naturally beautiful places I've ever seen, and the wedding itself was totally incredible—I know I'll be talking about it for years to come. When we're searching for Real Weddings to feature in our magazine, we're always on the hunt for incredible moments and details—and that's exactly what this wedding had. Olga and her groom, Joel, created a wedding with an apple theme (in honor of the groom's job at Apple)—each reception table was named after a different type of the fruit (Fuji, Golden Delicious, Cameo), the escort cards with apple-shaped candles, and the favors were homemade apple-banana bread in terra-cotta pots. The centerpieces were simple, but gorgeous—floating red gerbera daisies and candles.
Of course, the setting, under the redwood trees at the Henry Miller Library was amazing, the food was delicious (decorate-your-own cupcakes, yum!), and the bride (and groom) looked gorgeous. But the most memorable parts of the event were the personal touches the wedding featured—the impromptu open mic where guests shared memories about the couple, the Ukranian wedding ceremony in honor of the bride's heritage, the bonfire where everyone roasted s'mores, and the wild, laughter-filled dancing. It's a night I'll never forget.—Kim Forrest, Assistant Editor, Brides Northern California
