Designer ruby slippers -- just like Dorthoy's!

Courtesy CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements
The Wizard of Oz is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year and in honor of this milestone Warner Bros. has partnered with CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements and asked the world's top shoe designers to create a pair of real-life ruby slippers.
The designers were asked to reinterpret Dorthoy's famous shoes to be sold at an online charity auction ending on September 24, 2009 at an "Emerald Gala" at Tavern on the Green in New York City. The designer shoes will be on display at the CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements Store in Soho (499 Broadway) from September 15 -23 and if one catches your eye, you can bid on it at RubySlipperAuction.com—bidding began on September 10th and will end on the evening of September 24th. Bidding for each style starts at $1,000 and proceeds will benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
The "Emerald Gala" celebrating the movie's anniversary will feature a special performance by Grammy Award winner Ashanti and Lorna Luft, Judy Garland's daughter, as well as appearances by the original Munchkins and The Wizard of Oz National Tour cast.
Here's a list of the designers who created a pair of ruby slippers, and if you can't get to the preview you can check out the different styles online at RubySlipperAuction.com: A. Testoni, Abaete, Alberta Ferretti, Betsey Johnson, Botkier, Diane von Furstenberg, Giuseppe Zanotti, Jimmy Choo, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, Lisa Pliner, Manolo Blahnik, Moschino, Oscar de la Renta, Roger Vivier, Sergio Rossi, Stuart Weitzman, Tibi and Tuleh.
A pair of ruby slippers would be fabulous at a Wizard of Oz themed wedding, click here to find more inspiration for this fantasy theme! —Anne Chertoff
