    Pop goes the question

Three friends of mine got engaged this past weekend! A girl from high school sent me an e-mail saying her boyfriend had asked her to marry him over the weekend. They were running through a local college and he stopped because he "had a rock in his shoe." When she turned around, he was on one knee. This creative proposal prompted her to start flipping through bridal magazines—and she came across my name in Modern Bride!

Another friend, this time from college, sent me a Facebook message saying she and her longtime boyfriend Brandon had gotten engaged on the beach and did I have any tips on throwing an eco-chic, green wedding?

And finally, my best guy friend from college proposed to his girlfriend at the Chicago White Sox game on Sunday. The question, "Erin, will you marry me?" was supposed to flash on the Jumbotron, but due to a snafu it never happened through all of the nine innings! He ended up asking her at the end of the game anyway and she said yes.

Today, I twisted off the cap of my Diet Snapple to read this: Real Fact #816 — In Ancient Greece, throwing an apple to a woman was considered a marriage proposal.

Wow! Proposals must be in the air! Tell us about your engagement story below. —Abbe Wright, assistant to the editor-in-chief, Modern Bride

    1. My fisnce Randy is a huge political buff and die-hard republican here in South Texas. Last year we had the opportunity to take a trip to Washington DC. For the life of me I couldn't figure out why he was so into this private tour of the Capital. I mean it's all he talked about! Well not only did he have a private tour set up, he also managed to get a private tour of the Speaker of the Houses private office and balcony. As we stood overlooking the National Mall on Pelosie's private balcony, he got down on one knee and proposed on 8/12/08. It was beathtaking and now whenever I see the Nations Capital, I am reminded of my amazing proposal given by my amazing man!!
