Modern Bride
I'm announcing my retirement

After five times down the aisle (twice as a maid of honor), I have successfully supported all of my close friends in their weddings. And I'll be honest: I'm relieved to be leaving the bridesmaid business behind. To date, I've planned countless showers (replete with entertaining games) and bachelorette parties (if I never buy another phallic-shaped necklace again...), and shown up for dress-shopping trips and gown fittings. I've stuffed invitations, assembled welcome baskets and given my share of heartfelt toasts. I've even made one of my own bridesmaid's dresses, when a box containing only material and a pattern showed up at my door.
But with all my best buds happily married off, those days are behind me. My only tasks from now on are to arrive on time, eat the food, enjoy the drinks and take the occasional twirl on the dance floor with the happy couple. So please, keep those wedding invitations coming. I can't wait to be just a guest! —Anita K. Henry, group managing editor, Modern Bride
