We hope you're loving the new Brides Northern California cover (Fall/Winter 2009)—be sure tell us what you think on our Facebook page!

Valeria, the model, is wearing an amazing diamond engagement ring (that you unfortunately can't see). It's by one of my favorite designers, Mark Patterson, and features an Asscher-cut center stone. Marked by a square shape and an intricate matrix of step-cut facets, the Asscher was first introduced in 1902. It's become a new favorite, though rings with genuine antique Asschers are extremely rare and pricey (I recently saw an unsigned one from the 1930s fetch a value of $75,000 to $100,00 on Antiques Roadshow). I've always thought that Asschers exude an aristocratic look, which is why this ring works so well in the context of our cover photo (like we kidnapped this "bride," straight from a reception held at Nestldown, in Los Gatos, or Atwood Ranch, in Glen Ellen). —Amy Elliott, executive editor, Brides Northern California
