Life of pie
Courtesy of Grand Traverse Pie Company
We're seeing more and more couples offer guests a dessert other than (or even in addition to) traditional wedding cake. Cupcakes are, by far, the most popular idea we've seen, but I'm a total sucker for a display of assorted pies. These incredible cherry ones, by the Grand Traverse Pie Company, feature locally-grown Montmorency cherries and would make a splendid addition to any dessert spread. Purchase the pies from one of the company's 17 Michigan locations. —Heather Lee, Editor, Brides Michigan

We are doing pies instead of cake for our fall wedding. Nick is a pie guy and I am an ice cream lover, so a little ala mode for our wedding seemed to fit! I am so happy this is something that I can share with the couples in Michigan!
We're also doing a pie buffet in place of cake for our wedding in November. Besides just seeming unique, pies are perfect heading into the holidays and are more cost effective than elaborately decorated cakes. As an added bonus...there doesn't have to be a deer-in-the-headlights posed photo op!
