Rethinking readings

I love when a bride and groom break from tradition and do something special and different, something that's clearly a reflection of who they are as a couple. My cousin and her husband are passionate people so I knew their July ceremony would be an emotional one—they each wrote beautiful, heartfelt vows—but also being nontraditional, fun-loving and incredibly creative (she's an elementary school librarian and he's a professional musician), I also knew they'd shake things up.
How they decided to do this puts their ceremony near the top of my list of favorite wedding moments. For the final reading they selected Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss. The story's rhyming, often silly verses may be too unconventional for some, but they couldn't have been more perfect for this pair, especially since their message is a sweet one: "...you're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So...get on your way!" Tell us, are you planning a traditional ceremony or is Dr. Seuss part of the program? —Michaela Garibaldi, assistant managing editor, Modern Bride
