Modern Bride
A rockin' good time
My best friend is approaching her second wedding anniversary, and her wedding weekend in Scotland was truly a rock 'n' roll affair. Her wedding invitation was meant to look like a Belle & Sebastian album cover. She and her future husband couldn't agree on the wedding-march music: She wanted Blur, but he's an Oasis fan—and anyone aware of the Britpop rivalry knows that wouldn't do. They agreed in the final hour on a neutral choice of Sufjan Stevens. Their cake was inspired by the White Stripes and a local rock star acted as DJ.
The best part of the wedding wasn't just the musical touches—and I love music. It was how enjoyable and relaxed everything was. There were multiple wedding-day problems, but my friend calmly accepted them and moved on. When she arrived at the church and heard one of the vendors needed cash that night, she went to the bank in her gown, veil and bouquet and considered it a hilarious trip to an ATM. Nothing was going to stress her out. The good mood prevailed until the last minute of the wedding at 2 a.m., and we were all too happy to meet for the brunch the next morning. —Amber Furst, associate lifestyle editor, Modern Bride
