How the other half lives

Almost every time I get my hair blown out, the stylist parts my hair on the wrong side. This might not seem so odd if it was always the same hairdresser. But no matter where I go, no matter who does my hair, that person invariably creates a part on the left side, while I always part it on the right. It happens so often that I am starting to think that I must be wrong about what looks best on me. Is there something about the reflection that I see in the mirror that inverts my image, making me think I should part right when really I should part left?
It makes me wonder how much we should rely on someone else's view of us rather than our own view of ourselves. I know we've all been taught that we know ourselves better than anyone. That we should make decisions based on that knowledge and stick to our guns. But it seems there's something be said for looking at things from the other side. From someone else's perspective. Sure, it's just my hair I'm talking about. No big deal. But next time someone sweeps all my hair over to the left, I'm going to leave it there. And see how the other half lives. —Antonia van der Meer, editor-in-chief, Modern Bride
