Digging for diamonds
Courtesy of Mervis
Looking for a little something sparkly for your wedding day? Here's a really fun event where you could win some diamonds (yes, I just said diamonds). Mervis Diamond Importers in Tysons Corner is hosting a "Diamond Dig" on Friday, August 28, 10am to 5pm, where 60 real diamonds will be buried in a plot of sand for "diggers" to find. Whatever you find, you keep! You have to win a slot as a digger, though, so register at the Mervis website. Happy digging!—Kim Forrest, Editor, Brides Washington/Brides Maryland

I think a worth visiting and supporting site (or brand?) is Igloo Diamonds (www.diamonds.ca).The site carries exclusively Canadian diamonds and forwards a portion of their mark up (not the elusive figure called "profit", the site explains) towards landmine clearing in Mozambique.
Another site with plenty of links with information on the topic is www.diamonds.org
