White flowers in church—is it a rule?

Here's a wild one we've been hearing: That the only acceptable flowers for a church ceremony are white. Says who? Where did this come from? Hasn't anyone seen red pointsettias at Christmas, for crying out loud? We're here to tell you that no matter what your grandmother (or, in the case of one editor's wedding, the flower girl) tells you, you can go all-out with color in your ceremony space. Of course white flowers can look fantastic in a house of worship—they really "pop" in a low-lit space and during a candlelight ceremony. And white flowers certainly look "bridal."But are they mandatory? What do you think? —Sally, BRIDES Magazine
