Accessorizing the cover
Robert Mitra
We hope you're loving the new Brides New Jersey cover (Fall/Winter 2009)—be sure tell us what you think on our Facebook page!
We reached for this Cathy Waterman engagement ring several times during our cover shoot; it turned out to be the perfect little something to complete one of two types of looks—ethereal/fairylike or antique/romantic. The diamond-flecked platinum leaves that adorn the setting conjure up images of wood nymphs and enchanted forests. Meanwhile, the antiqued quality of the platinum, and the old-fashioned rose-cut diamond center stone, took my imagination in another direction...I pictured beaded, Belle Epoque-era evening gowns and the women who might have worn them gathered around a piano in a candle-lit drawing room. The Michelle Rahn gown on the Brides New Jersey cover features a dramatic, down-to-there V-neck that is totally modern, but there's something very "Edwardian glam" about the crystal trim. Cathy Waterman's rings nail this look—but my favorites always display a hint of elfin, hand-hewn flair. Cathy Waterman's jewelry is available at Barneys New York, 212-826-8900. —Amy Elliott, executive editor, Brides New Jersey
