Modern Bride
In Good Taste

One of the best ways to express creativity is through food. We all have our favorite restaurants with signature dishes you can't find anywhere else. At a wedding, what better way to show your colors than through your cake? At my cousin-in-laws Louise and James' wedding, the bride did just that, literally. Louise is Swedish, and as a nod to her heritage, she chose to serve a Prinsesstarta (Princess cake) at her wedding.
The traditional dessert is made of sponge cake layered with whipped cream and custard, and is covered in green marzipan and often decorated with a pink rose. To make the cake weddingworthy, it was displayed in three separate layers of ascending heights, and the bridesmaids' dresses, of course, matched the light green color of the cake. It was not only delicious, but was a great touch that helped make the day truly belong to the couple. —Joseph Mills, contributing copy editor, Modern Bride

What a great way to personalize the wedding! And the cakes are so pretty and unique!!!
This cake was definitely memorable. Every time someone talks about our wedding, the cake is always the first thing that comes up. This is my favorite kind of cake and what better place to share it with everyone I love than at my wedding? Yum!
I agree that it's the little details that really personalize a wedding. What a nice touch!
I'm a quarter Swedish. Maybe I'll consider incorporating this cake into my reception!
