Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Weddings for us usually mean travel. We have family and friends around the country. The minute we get a save-the-date, we're online booking flights. Of course, we're more than happy to make the trip. How special is it when someone tells you that they want to be with you on the most important day of their lives?
One drawback: More often than not, we arrive the night before the big day and miss out on the festivities surrounding the wedding. This is not the case for the upcoming marriage of Jenn and Joey. They live in Long Island, a short drive from our apartment in Manhattan. My partner is a groomsman and, considering our proximity, we are in it for all the parties.
The first was this past Sunday, the bachelor party—my first since college. But this was a little different. Jenn and Joey combined their parties for one bachelor/bachelorette party—at Yankee Stadium. (Here they are, in the photo.)
Now, I'm not a big sports fan, so initially I wasn't thrilled about being surrounded by thousands of them, and I wasn't sure what to expect from a nontraditional party such as that, but I bought a Yankees cap, got into the spirit, and we met everyone at the gate. After introductions all around, we got food and drink and found our seats.
We spent the next few hours catching up with the old and getting to know the new. And then everyone started leaving. Did we really talk through the whole game? Well, I didn't see that much of it, but I enjoyed myself as much as any of the die-hard Yankee fans there. The combined bachelor/bachelorette bash was such a hit that we didn't let it end at the last out. The party continued back in the city—all a preview of what a great time we'll have this weekend. —Joseph Mills, contributing copy editor, Modern Bride

I love combo bachelor/bachelorette parties. The "traditional" way is sexist and outdated, and it assumes a strict delineation that the groom has guy friends and the bride has lady friends, which is silly! It's so much more fun when all the friends can do something together. Good for Jenn and Joey, and good luck to them!
I am a bridesmaid in the Yankee bachelor/bachelorette party crew and it was a blast! :)
I am a bridesmaid for Jenn and I absolutely enjoyed the combined party. I am a huge Yankee fan and got to spend the day in the new stadium and meet the people in the wedding party from out of town. We were able to share some laughs before the big day and get to know each other better! Kudos to a great bride and groom for planning the day.
