5 Questions with...
Kirstie Kelly

If you want to look like a Disney princess at your wedding, Kirstie Kelly is your go-to girl. Her line, Kirstie Kelly for Disney Fairy Tale Weddings, combines the timeless elegance and charm of Disney princesses with modern and fashion-forward updates to make the dresses wearable today.
Here, Kirstie tells us about bridesmaid dress trends, why she started her plus size line and what dress she thinks Amy Adams (who played Disney princess Gisele in the movie Enchanted) should wear to her wedding. —Cari Wolfert
The bridal line is based on Disney Fairytale princesses. Did you have a favorite fairytale princess growing up?
When I was a child I really admired Cinderella for her classic glamour and sheer elegance. As an adult I really enjoy Jasmine for her bohemian, chic ways and independent free spirited personality.
When you design dresses based on fictional princesses, what kind of details from the character help you create the dress to match?
The gowns are designed around the personality and spirit of each Disney Princess. The details in the gowns are carefully thought out... to reflect their modern day personalities. The types of fabrics and materials used on the dresses like lace or beading help showcase their personalities.
Last year, you introduced the Red Label Plus Size collection. It got some of the biggest cheers on the runway! How did that come about and what kind of styles work well on a fuller figure?
It is very important to be able to dress all figures by accentuating the femininity and beauty in every shape and size. I have always found that the decolletage is a beautiful part of a woman and a gown that accents this part of the body while minimizing the waist line tends to be a lovely detail for a full figured bride. The collection showcases a number of elegant silhouettes, with rich fabrics and appliques, celebrating the princess in every woman.
What new trends are you finding interesting bridesmaids?
Our Maidens collection is inspired by red carpet glamour and traditional bridesmaid design accented with intricate beading and other fun and flirty details, like lace appliques and bows. Ultimately, the "cocktail" feel to the collection, keeps the dresses fresh and exciting every season.
What role do you think jewelry and accessories should play in a wedding day outfit?
Accessories are an important element to achieve a complete look for your wedding day. For a simple gown, accessorizing with a fashion forward brooch or fun chandelier earrings is a great way to bring together your look. For a gown with more detail, keeping your jewelry slightly understated is a good idea, as to not compete with the gown.
BONUS: You introduced a new dress for your line that was inspired by the character Giselle (played by engaged actress Amy Adams) in the movie Enchanted. Do you see Amy wearing a similar dress to her own wedding? If not, which one of your dresses would you choose for her?
My Giselle gown is a perfect choice for Amy! It's organic yet highly fashionable aesthetic provides a perfect complement to Amy's demure yet vivacious personality, co-mingled with her beautiful complexion and hair color. The beautiful 3-dimensional leaf textured lace in an ecru color, together with the fit and flare shape would be lovely!
