How to Spot Honeymooners

I just spent a long weekend at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort in The Bahamas. After a few hours at this pretty resort, the obvious suddenly dawned on me. Either Noah's Ark was docked nearby or I was the only one on this stretch of sand without a mate. Everywhere I looked there were happy pairs in the midst of romantic strolls. I "couple-watched" from my perch for a long time before I started to wonder which of these duos were actually on their honeymoon. Here's how to spot the newlyweds:
First of all, look for massive amounts of chivalry. A new husband will be juggling everything, from the chairs to the drinks to the towels. And he'll even attempt to do all of this one-handed so his other hand is free to hold his wife's. Now check to see if they're wearing their rings. Having just acquired these jewels, honeymooners aren't as willing to leave them in the safe in their room, even though we've all heard the horror stories of lost rings at the beach. Next, focus on their location. Newlyweds tend to gravitate toward spots that offer some privacy, like under a far-flung palm tree or in a secluded cabana. And finally, find the couples without BlackBerries or books. People experiencing wedded bliss won't be checking their e-mail feverishly or flipping the pages of a juicy book. They're too busy laughing and talking...to each other. And truly appreciating that, after the hustle and bustle of a wedding, they're finally alone. —Anita K.
