    Farewell, Max Factor makeup

    maryclarke.jpg

How sad was I to learn that Max Factor makeup will be phased out of U.S. stores in 2010? There really was a Max Factor (b 1877), which makes it the very first makeup-artist line ever. Other firsts: the first makeup formulated for movies (1914); Lip gloss (1930); Concealer (1954), and one of my all-time favorites, colorless (yes, totally clear) mascara (1988). The line is a huge seller globally, just not on our shores, so all is not lost. But unless you're planning a trip abroad, now's the time to start stockpiling any MF products you may have grown to love. —Mary Clarke, beauty director, Modern Bride
