Modern Bride
Once in a lifetime

My mom recently visited me in NYC and we celebrated her 70th birthday. To mark this momentous occasion, I have to say, I went a little nuts. Dinner and a Broadway show, a carriage ride in Central Park, a pedicure and a fun purchase from Tiffany's. Normally she just gets a funny card with "I love you" written in all caps. But this was a big birthday and I decided to adopt that once-in-a-lifetime mentality and threw caution to the wind. I imagine this is what many brides experience during the wedding-planning process. This license to splurge a little. After all, you are on the ultimate quest to make one special day as memorable as possible. My mom once told me that life is full of ordinary days, so when a truly happy one comes along, you should really celebrate it. So that's what we did. And so should you. —Anita K.
